Jen and Nozomi, Engaged!
When I set out to make a video introducing myself to the world wide web, I needed a couple to model for me. Maryn Graves Productions works her magic to show viewers how creatives make their wares. Or in my case, how I shoot. A friend knew of a sweet couple who were not officially engaged, but actually married. Go ahead and scratch your head... I'll wait...
Upon meeting Jen and Nazomi near the Chart House in Old Town Alexandria, they explained their story. Originally from Japan and Hawaii, the pair met in college and have been dating for years. They were pretty serious as a couple when they finished their advanced degrees and searched for work. They knew they wanted to spend the rest of their lives together, but an official engagement hadn't been proposed when Jen's health insurance was slated to end. The pair had a frank discussion about their intentions and how they envisioned the future, but not wanting to skip the romance of a true engagement, the pair got married at the courthouse before there was even a ring. They didn't announce the brief ceremony to friends and family, hoping to surprise them with the unique backstory whenever Nozomi truly popped the question with a ring.
Well, the cat's out of the bag now! Nozomi proposed this past weekend! The pair are officially engaged and will have a wedding celebration next August to share their love and intention with all their family and friends!
It was such a joy to work with this patient couple. The shoot was very different from a typical engagement shoot because the focus was oddly on me and in video. But Jen and Nozomi were totally onboard, supportive and so sweet. I'm so pleased we were able to get these beautiful images in the process as a thank you for their help!
Congratulations, Jen and Nozomi! I'm so happy it's official and that you can now plan a beautiful and fun ceremony to share your marriage with all your friends and family!
